A day out on the South Bank

A couple of weeks ago some of the current Pre-sessional students visited the South Bank of London. Read about their adventures in the article below, written by them:

On a lovely sunny Friday, the PG Pre-sessional students went on a short trip to the Southbank. The students were interested in Southwark Cathedral and the London design festival at OXO Tower wharf. Through the visit, the students learnt about history, designers and design inspiration.

Southwark Cathedral was a new concept for us. This is the first time we have seen such an amazing, historical and ancient building. The church is over one thousand years old with big historical value. The vaulted roof is a characteristic feature of the church with big stained glass windows.. There are many statues around the walls. Visitors can see the organ pipes which plays on major occasions At the end of church is a side chapel, which is called a prayer room, everybody can come here to pray and God is always inside their heart- the best motivation in their life.

At the London Design Festival at OXO Tower wharf, we visited an extraordinary space that depicted a sunset under the sea, and we took lots of photos while we sat on the ground and felt the changes in lighting and music. The inspiration of the designer and interior decoration design was very impressive.  Final year students at UCL had created art in a unique way using different textiles but also thinking about looking after the environment.
